6:30pm: Webster Groves Marching Band plays on Monstrosity (shown in the picture to the right)
7:00pm: Contras & Waltzes
Ever hear of "flash mobs"? They're spontaneous gatherings that bring people together on short notice for a brief period of time. Well, please join other dancers and musicians for a "flash dance" – an opportunity to waltz or contra in a public place.
Here’s your chance to dance in a colorful eclectic environment – in the mouth of a whale, on a mosaic school of fish, next to or above a large aquarium, and some other great choices.
If you’ve never been there before, there’s no place in St. Louis that matches its creativity, whimsy, and playfulness.

The place will be rockin’ with music that night! Come early to hear the Webster Groves Marching Band play on Monstrosity at sunset. After we’re done; you’re likely to see the girls from St. Joe’s Academy and their dates headed to their formal dance. Marching Bands, Formal Dresses, Contra dancers climbing through tunnels and waltzers squealing down the slide. What a night!
Did we mention it’s free for the first 60 dancers? To get in on the free admission, we recommend getting there before 7:30!
What makes this place Special?
CITY MUSEUM is a place where the imagination runs wild!
Housed in the 600,000 square-foot former International Shoe Company, the museum is an eclectic mixture of children's playground, funhouse, surrealistic pavilion, and architectural marvel made out of unique, found objects.
The brainchild of internationally acclaimed artist Bob Cassilly, a classically trained sculptor and serial entrepreneur, the museum merits riotous approval of young and old alike.
Cassilly and his longtime crew of 20 artisans have constructed the museum from the very stuff of the city; and, as a result, it has urban roots deeper than any other institutions'. Reaching no farther than municipal borders for its reclaimed building materials, CITY MUSEUM boasts features such as old chimneys, salvaged bridges, construction cranes, miles of tile, and even two abandoned airplanes!
What to Wear
Something bright and colorful. Maybe shiny or sparkly.
If you’ll be climbing around on MonstroCity, sliding down the gigantic slide, or climbing through the tunnels, you may want to dress accordingly, or bring a change of clothes.
