Flash Dances - Schedule of Spontaneous Events

What's a Flash Dance?

Ever hear of "flash mobs"? They're spontaneous gatherings that bring people together on short notice for a brief period of time . Well, here's your chance to join dancers and musicians for a "flash dance" - an opportunity to waltz or contra in a public place.

Flash Dances in 2009

Sat Apr 4 3:00-4:00 pm	The Old Post Office Plaza Park - a new park in downtown St. Louis located at the corner of 9th & Locust.
Sat July 11 12noon - 1:30pm	The Old Post Office Plaza Park - downtown St. Louis, located at the corner of 9th & Locust. Live music from the Mound City Slickers.
Tue July 21 6:30-7:45pm	The MUNY - We'll be dancing on a sprung-wood floor in an outdoor covered pavilion before The Music Man. PLEASE NOTE: The location of the Flash Dance has changed from previous years! See the full page for details.
Sun Aug 9 5:30-8:30pm	The Missouri Botanical Garden - We'll be waltzing and dancing contras in several beautiful locations.
Sat Aug 15 6:45-8:15pm	Tower Grove Pool Pavilion - Dance contras to music from Run-Down Boots (Ellen Gomez on fiddle, Dan Higgins on banjo, and Marc Rennard on guitar), then pull up your lawn chair and watch Nicholas Cage in National Treasure.
Sun Sep 6 1:30-3:00 pm	St. Louis Union Station - We waltzed and danced contras in this great old St. Louis landmark. We were joined by the folks attending the High Tea & Whiskey weekend. Here's Dan's video.
Wed Sep 16 5:30-6:45 pm	The Missouri Botanical Garden - We waltzed and danced contras in several beautiful locations, including the Climatron at night, then Dan took this picture in front of the Chihuly chandelier. Here's Dan's video.
Sat Sep 26 1:00-2:45 pm	Grand Center's "Dancing in the Streets" Band:Mound City Slickers Location: Grandel Square, across from Powell Hall just off Grand.
Sat Oct 24 10:00-11:00am       and 3:00-4:30pm	Farmer's Market in Ferguson Band:Buckhannon Brothers Caller: Wade Pearson Location: 20 S. Florissant Rd. in Ferguson, just south of the railroad bridge in Victorian Plaza.
