Painting the Monday Club Dining Room

Gallery page two

On a lovely warm Saturday in January 2002, we arrived at the Monday Club and found the amateur painter's dream room - the room was already primed, the drop cloths were laid, the paint mixed and the brushes and rollers abundant. All we had to do was paint the walls a luscious peach color! None of that pesky prep stuff, and none of the nagging clean-up, either. Noni, who arranged it all, sent us on our way when we had covered the last satisfying square inch, saying she would clean the brushes and rollers in her brush-washing machine. (Brush-washing machine! What a world...)

Martha and Mae and Karen discuss whether or not the paint needs more salt.

Mac had brought CDs for us - we painted the first half of the room to the Stringdancer CD, and the second half to Bela Fleck's classical CD, Perpetual Motion. Here's a party trick: play the first cut on Perpetual Motion and ask your friends to name the instruments that are playing. One is easy, mandolin. You'll never guess the second. None of us could!
