And if this sort of thing rocks your world, there's a Civil War Ball at the Mahler Ballroom the next day, Saturday April 16, 2016. We're going to that one, too...

We're so sorry, but it looks as if the road conditions will be icy at the end of the Ball, and we've decided not to take a chance that our dancers will be put in jeopardy.  But take heart - we've already started talking about a ball next month, on March 20, the First Day of Spring.

PresidentsBallFlyer tnThis year's February Ball theme celebrates the 200th anniversary of the Battle of New Orleans, in which, on the Eighth of January in 1815, American forces won the battle which finally stopped the hostilities between Great Britain and the American Colonies. Even though the Revolutionary War was officially over in 1783 with the Peace of Paris, skirmishes with Britain over bits of the New World continued. But after this final battle in the War of 1812, America and Britain were able to fashion a friendship which has lasted a couple of centuries now.

Come help celebrate that Anglo-American friendship in a dress-up English Country Dance Ball on Friday, February 20, 2015 at 8pm.

We recommend Regency Period dress for those who want to match the clothing of that era. But please understand that, while Regency Period attire is admired, it is NOT required!  You are welcome to come dance in clothing of the period of your choice, including Modern Casual!

The Friday dance is cancelled, but there's an English workshop/dance on Saturday
at the Kimmswick Dance weekend at Cuivre River State Park in Troy, MO.

The English Workshop/Dance at Kimmswick is usually a bunch of fun - we're joined by other contra/English crossover types from five states around.  If you're new to it, we'll be helpful, but since the dancers at Kimmswick are usually pretty highly skilled, we may just go ahead and call our regular dances. You'll catch on - the basic idea is just the same; there are just a few different moves to learn.

We've pretty much dropped the "honking" part of the Styling workshop since our callers have gottn pretty good at keeping the teaching crisp. We still emphasize style points, and the casual atmosphere makes it easy to get your questions answered!  Otherwise, we just have a good time dancing.
